Juba, South Sudan – Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga has launched a scathing attack on politicians from Central Equatoria State (CES), accusing them of destructive internal rivalry that is destabilizing the state and blocking its progress.
Speaking on Thursday, Dr. Wani, who also chairs the national Economic Cluster, described the pattern of CES politicians systematically undermining newly appointed leaders as “selfish divisions” that benefit no one except personal ambition.
“If someone is appointed, the other will complain and decampaign him… working hard to fail him,” Dr. Wani said, adding that such behavior has led to constant leadership changes and growing instability in the state.
Using a vivid local analogy, the Vice President warned: “CES politicians are eating themselves like fish,” emphasizing that the infighting is devouring the state’s unity and development from within.
Dr. Wani Igga urged politicians, intellectuals, and community leaders in Central Equatoria to rise above personal interests and power games, calling on them to focus instead on serving the people and delivering tangible progress for the state.
The Vice President’s public rebuke comes amid ongoing complaints of frequent removals and appointments of state officials, which many citizens blame on behind-the-scenes political maneuvering in Juba.
Citizens and civil society groups in CES have repeatedly called for an end to the cycle of political sabotage, arguing that it discourages competent leaders and stalls critical infrastructure and service-delivery projects.
Dr. Wani’s statement is seen as one of the strongest interventions yet from a national leader on the deepening political crisis in Central Equatoria State.
Juba TV will continue to monitor reactions from CES politicians and the public.
