Deadly Fire Devastates Nyakuroun Custom Market, Dozens of Businesses Reduced to Ashes

A massive fire tore through Nyakuroun’s Custom Market on the evening of Monday, December 1, leaving a trail of destruction that has devastated local traders and the surrounding community.

According to eyewitnesses, the blaze spread rapidly through rows of tightly packed shops, fueled by flammable goods and the absence of immediate firefighting access. By the time the flames were brought under control, numerous businesses had been completely destroyed.

When Juba TV visited the scene early Tuesday morning, charred remains of shops, twisted metal sheets, and smoldering debris were all that remained of what was once a bustling commercial hub. The air was thick with smoke as traders searched through rubble, hoping to salvage anything from their ruined stalls.

Many shop owners, their livelihoods reduced to ashes, stood in tears as they assessed the scale of their losses. Some reported losing all their merchandise, cash, and documents in the fire.

Local authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident, but an investigation is reportedly underway. No casualties have been officially recorded so far, though concerns remain for potential injuries due to the intensity of the fire.

Residents and traders are calling on the government for immediate assistance and improved market safety measures to prevent similar disasters in the future.

Juba TV will continue to follow this developing story.
