Activist Wani Michael Sparks Debate With Bold Message to Children of South Sudan’s Senior Leaders

South Sudanese activist Wani Michael has stirred intense public discussion following a strongly worded statement directed at what he termed the “sons and daughters of the senior liberators.”

In his message, widely circulated on social media, Wani accused some senior leaders of allegedly enriching themselves during years of conflict and governance challenges, adding that their children appear poised to inherit systems of privilege.

He warned of what he called a looming “battle” between privileged families and ordinary citizens, saying “your parents have deliberately looted everything and want to hand over the looting scheme to you.” He stressed that South Sudan should not function like a monarchy and that the country must provide equal opportunity for all citizens, including what he described as “children of nobody.”

Wani Michael further argued that young people from non-politically connected families will continue to demand accountability, fairness, and inclusion in national development.

His remarks have drawn mixed reactions online ranging from praise by those who share concerns about inequality, to criticism from others who say his message risks deepening divisions.

Authorities have not officially responded to the activist’s statement.

As public debate grows, many citizens are calling for strengthened governance reforms, transparency, and opportunities that benefit all South Sudanese regardless of background.

For updates on this developing story, stay tuned.
