Governors Adil, Gai and Administrator Boyoi Hold Tripartite Meeting to Strengthen Peace and Security Along Shared Borders

‎‎A high-level tripartite meeting bringing together the leadership of Central Equatoria State, Jonglei State, and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) was held on Friday in Juba, focusing on coordinated efforts to enhance peace, stability and security along their shared borders.‎‎

The meeting was chaired by Central Equatoria Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony and attended by Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok and GPAA Chief Administrator Gola Boyoi Gola. ‎

The leaders emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address recurring insecurity, promote peaceful coexistence, and protect communities across the three administrative units.‎‎

According to the communiqué, the leaders adopted several resolutions aimed at strengthening intergovernmental cooperation and addressing persistent sources of conflict.

Among the key decisions is the inclusion of Eastern Equatoria State in the peace initiative to ensure a unified regional approach to cross-border challenges.

‎‎They also agreed to conduct rotational quarterly meetings of the high-level committee, enhance joint security operations, and promote dialogue and reconciliation among communities.‎

The leaders pledged to work together to curb cattle raiding, prevent child abductions, and ensure the safe return of abducted children.

‎‎To address rising insecurity along the Juba–Bor highway and attacks on cattle traders in Mogiri, the meeting resolved to deploy national security forces and construct a permanent perimeter fence to protect traders. ‎

The leaders further called for nationwide disarmament of civilians to reduce armed crime.

‎‎The resolutions also highlight plans to empower youth through education and economic opportunities, promote trade and economic cooperation, establish a crisis management team, and conduct joint conferences across the four administrative units to promote peaceful coexistence.‎‎

Rehabilitation of roads linking the states and administrative areas was also prioritized to facilitate movement, trade, and service delivery.‎‎

The leaders reiterated their collective commitment to implementing the resolutions “in letter and spirit,” urging communities to fully support the initiative.

‎The governors directed security organs to maintain vigilance and professionalism, and appealed to humanitarian partners to assist ongoing peace and development efforts.
