Governor Adil Launches EBC TV, CES Newspaper to Strengthen Access to Information

Juba, Tuesday, 23rd December 2025 – CES/GPU

The Governor of Central Equatoria State (CES), H.E. Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has officially launched the Equator Broadcasting Corporation (EBC TV), an online television platform, alongside the Central Equatoria State (CES) Newspaper, in a major step aimed at strengthening access to information and promoting informed citizenship.

The launch ceremony was held in Juba under the theme: “Strengthening access to information for informed citizens, democratic practices, and good governance.”

Speaking at the event, Governor Adil praised the resilience and dedication of EBC staff who continued to work despite numerous challenges. He urged them to uphold professionalism and commitment, while assuring them of his government’s support to ensure the sustainability of EBC Television and Radio.

The Governor emphasized the critical role of EBC in disseminating information, promoting the diverse cultures of Central Equatoria State, and providing civic education, especially as the country approaches elections. He noted that the broadcaster will operate independently and adhere to ethical journalism standards, ensuring fair representation of both government and citizens, while welcoming constructive criticism and ideas that contribute to improved governance.

Governor Adil further stressed his administration’s commitment to a “less talk, more action” approach, pledging to empower EBC to extend its reach to all counties, including the administrative Payam of Wonduruba, to ensure inclusive access to information across the state.

Echoing similar sentiments, the State Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Nyarsuk Patrick, called on the government and development partners to support EBC through continuous capacity building, logistical assistance, and the provision of reliable power. She revealed plans to expand EBC’s coverage to other counties within the next five months, underscoring the importance of accurate and timely reporting on government activities and issues affecting communities.

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) and the South Sudan Media Authority welcomed the launch of EBC TV and the CES Newspaper, while appealing for the safety of journalists and the protection of freedom of expression.

EBC TV is now officially available on South One decoders, while the Central Equatoria State Newspaper will be published bi-weekly. The initiative aims to bring information closer to the people, promote transparency and accountability, support inclusive governance, and ensure diversified information dissemination.

The launch was attended by state advisors, ministers, the Commissioner of Juba County, the Mayor of Juba City, representatives of the European Union, and members of the media fraternity. During the event, Governor Adil and other speakers paid tribute to veteran leader Gen. Clement Wani Konga, former Governor of Central Equatoria State, for pioneering the Equator Broadcasting Corporation, as well as other former governors for their invaluable contributions toward the successful establishment of the TV and newspaper.
