President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement’s (SPLM) commitment to engaging in dialogue with opposition political parties as South Sudan prepares for its first general elections since independence.
The President made the remarks during a meeting with the SPLM Secretary General, Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, where he emphasized the party’s readiness to work with other political actors to ensure peace, stability, and the successful conduct of the planned elections.
According to the SPLM leadership, dialogue remains a central pillar in addressing political challenges and consolidating peace under the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
Dr. Akol Paul Kordit announced that the SPLM is planning to convene a caucus leadership meeting to assess the current political environment and map out strategies aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots base and reinforcing its founding liberation values.
He stressed that constructive engagement with all political parties that are signatories to the peace agreement is essential for building trust and fostering a peaceful, united, and democratic South Sudan.
The SPLM Secretary General further appealed to all political forces in the country to embrace dialogue as a vital tool for resolving differences and ensuring national unity during the transition toward elections.
South Sudan is currently navigating a critical political phase as stakeholders work to implement outstanding provisions of the peace agreement ahead of the anticipated polls.
