President Salva Kiir Mayardit has dismissed the Undersecretary in the Ministry of General Education and Instruction and appointed Omot Okony Olok Guon as the new Undersecretary, replacing Kachuol Mabil Piok.
The decision was made through a presidential order issued on [insert date if available], in line with ongoing changes within the public service aimed at strengthening institutional leadership and service delivery.
Omot Okony brings extensive experience to the role, having served for many years as Director General of the National Curriculum Development Centre.
During his tenure, he played a key role in curriculum reforms and the development of learning materials for primary and secondary schools across the country.
His appointment comes at a critical time for the education sector, which continues to face challenges including inadequate infrastructure, teacher shortages, and the implementation of education reforms under the revitalized peace agreement.
The presidency did not provide reasons for the dismissal of Kachuol Mabil Piok, a practice consistent with previous executive decisions.
International observers say Omot’s background in curriculum development and education policy could help advance reforms within the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, particularly in improving learning standards and aligning curricula with national development goals.
