Yambio Journalist Found Dead in River

Yambio, Western Equatoria State — The body of journalist Matia Samuel has been recovered from the Nakpangua River in Yambio, local authorities confirmed on Tuesday morning.

The late Matia Samuel had worked with Yambio FM, Eye Radio, and several other media outlets in South Sudan.

According to eyewitnesses, the journalist entered the river on Monday, reportedly to wash his legs, before he suddenly disappeared in the water. Following the incident, community members, together with local authorities, launched an immediate search operation.

His body was discovered early this morning, bringing a tragic end to the search efforts.

The death of Matia Samuel has sent shockwaves through the media fraternity and the wider Yambio community, with journalists, colleagues, and residents expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a dedicated media professional.

Local authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further details will be communicated to the public in due course.
