At least seventeen members of the Dinka Bor community were injured on Sunday after national security personnel allegedly opened fire at Star Hotel, located near Bor Park in Jonglei State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident unfolded after security operatives stormed the premises acting on what later turned out to be a false tip claiming that the Red Belt chairman was present at the hotel.
Without proper verification, the officers reportedly discharged live ammunition, causing chaos and injuring several civilians.
Among those wounded were the hotel’s owner, Ateng Deng Chau, Mayen Chau Arou, and well-known wrestler Majur Ayuen Akuei.
Wrestler Majur Ayuen Akuei was later transported to hospital by the same security personnel for medical attention.
Community members condemned the violence, calling for accountability and a thorough investigation into the conduct of the officers involved.
They also urged authorities to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future through proper intelligence verification and adherence to rules of engagement.
No official statement has yet been issued by the national security authorities regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting or the condition of the injured individuals.
The situation has heightened tension in Bor, with leaders and community elders appealing for calm as they await clarity from the government.
