Keeping Dreams Alive: Hygiene Aid Helps Morobo Pupils Stay in School

MOROBO COUNTY, South Sudan – Nearly 400 schoolchildren in Morobo County have benefited from a local initiative providing hygiene and dignity kits to help learners, especially girls, remain in school despite ongoing insecurity in the border region.

The Morobo Development Association (MoDA), with support from the National Christian Development Organisation (NCDO), distributed 24 cartons of sanitary pads, 25 boxes of washing soap, and 200 bottles of body lotion to pupils from Ombachi Keliko, Light of Christ, St Charles Lwanga, and St Joseph primary schools.

MoDA Chairperson Denaya Cosmas Didas said the initiative addresses one of the key barriers to education in the community. “Many learners, particularly adolescent girls, miss classes due to lack of basic hygiene materials. This support encourages them to stay in school and focus on their education,” he said.

Beneficiary Joice Kiden thanked MoDA and NCDO for the support, calling for more attention to classroom rehabilitation, teaching materials, and deployment of trained teachers.

Located along the Uganda – DR Congo border, Morobo County continues to experience insecurity and displacement, leaving schools struggling to provide quality education for children in need.
