Lawmaker Stephen Lual Says Kiir Committed to Elections, Welcomes U.S. Support: Defends Kiir’s Role in Democratic Transition

Stephen Lual Ngor, a member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) and the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee, has commended the United States for its continued support to South Sudan while reaffirming his strong backing of President Salva Kiir’s leadership during the country’s ongoing political transition.

‎Lawmaker Stephen made the remarks following a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael Adler, in Juba, where the two leaders discussed bilateral relations between South Sudan and the United States.

‎He described the relationship as historic and resilient, highlighting Washington’s long-standing support for South Sudanese aspirations from the liberation struggle through independence and state-building.

‎The legislator praised the U.S. Embassy’s engagement with the Government of South Sudan, saying the cooperation reflects America’s commitment to supporting peace, stability, and a democratic transition in the country. ‎‎

Hon. Stephen noted that U.S. support remains vital to the successful conduct of free, fair, and credible elections that reflect the will of the South Sudanese people.‎‎

Hon. Stephen further underscored the role of President Salva Kiir in steering the country through the transitional period, reiterating that the president is committed to holding presidential elections as a critical step toward consolidating peace, strengthening democratic governance, and advancing national development.‎‎

He concluded by expressing his full political support for President Kiir, stating that the president’s leadership remains central to maintaining stability and guiding South Sudan toward a secure, peaceful, and prosperous future.
