President Kiir Returns to Juba After attending IGAD Heads of State and NAM summits in Uganda

Juba, 21 January 2024 – President Salva Kiir Mayardit this afternoon returned to Juba after participating in two significant meetings: the IGAD Heads of State and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala, Uganda.

Presidential Affairs Minister Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro briefed the media on key points from the communique issued following the IGAD summit, emphasizing the need to respect territorial borders in relation to the tension between Ethiopia and Somalia, and calling on Sudan to cease hostilities and engage in political dialogue.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Kiir engaged with the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, on the need for peaceful dialogue between the warring parties in Sudan.

The meeting also addressed the need to open humanitarian corridors.
