‎A Member of Parliament representing Cueibet County has been shot dead in a targeted attack at his residence in Juba, authorities and local sources confirmed on Wednesday.‎‎

Unidentified gunmen stormed the home of Hon. Luka Mathen late Tuesday night in the Gudele neighborhood, opening fire and killing him instantly inside his own compound.

‎‎Sources close to the family said the assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack. ‎

No arrests have been made so far, and security agencies have yet to release details regarding the identity of the attackers or the motive behind the killing.‎‎

Hon. Mathen served as a representative of Cueibet County in the Council of States, where he was known for his involvement in legislative and community affairs. ‎

His killing has sent shockwaves across political circles and raised renewed concerns over insecurity in the capital.‎‎

Residents of Gudele reported hearing gunshots late at night, prompting fear and panic in the area. Security forces later cordoned off the compound as investigations began.‎‎
