President Salva Kiir Mayardiit Reaffirms Full Cooperation with UN as Peace Talks Deepen

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed South Sudan’s full cooperation with the United Nations in key areas of peace-building and security following high-level talks with the UN Under Secretary General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix.‎‎

The meeting, held in Juba on Thursday, focused on strengthening collaboration between the Government of South Sudan and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as the country continues efforts to consolidate peace and stability.‎‎

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Lacroix said he briefed President Kiir on the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres’ commitment to maintaining close engagement with South Sudan in support of peace, civilian protection, and national stability.‎‎

Mr. Lacroix emphasized that the United Nations is working diligently to ensure the uninterrupted operations of UNMISS by mobilizing adequate resources throughout the current fiscal year, underscoring the mission’s continued role in supporting peace efforts across the country.

‎‎Mr. Lacroix also commended the positive working relationship between the government and UNMISS, noting that sustained cooperation has enabled both sides to address issues of mutual concern through coordinated and constructive engagement.

‎‎The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts by the government and international partners to reinforce peace implementation, enhance security, and support humanitarian and development initiatives in South Sudan.
