Juba, South Sudan — South Sudan’s Cabinet has appointed Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior to temporarily assume the responsibilities of the suspended First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, with a particular focus on his role as head of the Governance Cluster.
According to the Cabinet’s decision, Nyandeng will oversee key national priorities, including constitutional reforms and preparations for the country’s upcoming national elections. Her appointment is aimed at ensuring continuity in government operations during Machar’s suspension.
Dr. Machar is currently on trial, facing treason and other charges, a development that led to his suspension from official duties.
The move comes at a critical time as South Sudan works toward implementing governance reforms and advancing the peace process ahead of elections.
