Information Ministry Faces Serious Operational Issues, Ateny Wek Tells President Kiir

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday received a detailed progress report from the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, highlighting the current performance, achievements, and pressing challenges facing the Ministry and its key parastatals.‎‎

According to Ateny, the briefing focused on ongoing institutional reforms, operational gaps, and urgent needs affecting effective service delivery, especially within the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), which continues to face technical, financial, and infrastructural constraints.‎‎

He also updated the President on challenges faced by other critical bodies under the Ministry, including the National Communication Authority (NCA), the Media Authority (MA), the Information Commission (IC), and the Universal Service Access Fund (USAF). ‎‎

These institutions play central roles in regulating media, expanding digital infrastructure, enhancing communication services, and improving information accessibility across the country.‎‎

The Minister emphasized the need for strengthened support, modernization of equipment, and improved coordination to ensure uninterrupted broadcasting, enhanced digital connectivity, and reliable communication services nationwide.‎‎

President Kiir, in response, assured the Ministry of the government’s commitment to addressing the highlighted obstacles and pledged to support ongoing reforms aimed at improving information dissemination, public communication, and national digital transformation efforts.

‎‎The meeting is part of the President’s continued engagements with various ministries to evaluate progress and accelerate the implementation of institutional reforms ahead of the transitional roadmap.
